Khusrau and Shirin in bed, c1410-c1411. Khusrau was a Sasanian king, and Shirin was his Armenian queen. Shirin is also in love with Farhad, a famous stone-cutter. When Khusrau discovers that his wife is in love with Farhad he becomes jealous and decides to test Farhad's love. He informs him that Shirin is dead. Farhad kills himself upon hearing this. Khusrau continues living with Shirin until his assassination. Shirin then kills herself and joins both her lovers.
