Majnun with animals in the desert, c1492-c1493. An extremely thin Majnun sits with a fawn resting in his lap. Around him are deer, lions and wolves. Majnun goes to live in the wilderness after the father of the girl he loves, Layla, refuses him permission to marry her. From the "Khamsah" by Nizami, a Persian poet.
