Map of the Caribbean, 1542. Map showing 'Couba' (Cuba), 'Espagnolla' (Hispaniola), and 'Jamaca' (Jamaica). It is orientated 'upside down' to our modern eyes: parts of the north coast of South America appear at the top, and parts of the south coast of North America, including Florida, appear at the bottom. Native Americans are depicted engaged in hunting with bow and arrow. The map includes a scale and lines of latitude. From "Portolano" or 'Boke of Idrography' by John Rotz, dedicated to King Henry VIII.
