Progress of the Waterworks at Menilmontant for the supply of Paris, 1864. The problems of pollution of the River Seine, and of '...water not being obtainable in the upper stories of Parisian houses [will be solved] by the introduction into Paris of a vast quantity of pure water, obtained from a considerable distance, and to be distributed from two immense reservoirs...Our engraving represents the present condition of the works at Menilmontant for the execution of the more important reservoir, which...will be alimented by the waters obtained from the rivers Dhuis and Marne, both celebrated for their pure and hygienic qualities...an immense aqueduct...has been constructed...The aqueduct...will deliver into the city of Paris 12,000,000 gallons of pure water daily, or nearly 140 gallons per second!'.
