The Galago, brought by Dr. Livingstone from South Africa for the Zoological Society's Gardens, Regent's Park, 1864. 'The little animal represented by our Engraving is the only living specimen in this country of a species of lemur found in various parts of South Africa,' It was brought to England about three weeks ago by Dr. Waghorn, the physician who accompanied Dr. Livingstone in his last sojourn on the Zambesi River...The adult is about 28 in. long, including the tail, which has a length of 16 in. Its colour is a light chinchilla grey; but the throat is nearly white, and the ears black. It has the power of turning its ears back and folding them up, which is their usual position when the animal is at rest; but when it moves about in search of food the ears are opened and spread out. Its disposition is very gentle; it sleeps much during the day, and feeds upon fruit and bread and milk, but likes sweet things, and particularly bananas'. From "Illustrated London News", 1864.
