The Goodwood Cup, 1864. 'Goodwood has long been celebrated for the beauty of its cups as well as of its scenery, and this year it has been again true to its charter. The Goodwood Cup, which was won by M. Lupin's Dollar, beating East Lancashire, The Ranger, Hollyfox, Stradella, Queen Bertha, Glendusk, Little Stag, Lord Zetland, and Esperance, present an equestrian silver statuette of William the Conqueror on a tall base, with bas-reliefs taken from the Bayeux tapestry, and representing Harold's oath to William, the Battle of Hastings, and the death of Harold. The figure of the Conqueror has been very effectively modelled by Mr. W. E. Spencer, and the work has been executed by Messrs. Garrard, of the Haymarket'. From "Illustrated London News", 1864.
