Sketches in British Columbia: scene at the fountain near Parsonville, Fraser River, 1864. 'The Fountain, eight miles from Parsonville, which is in quite another district, on the other side of the Fraser River, is well known as one of the prettiest spots on that line of road. Here is a plain about one mile in length, surrounded by romantic mountains, which give it the appearance of a vast amphitheatre. Although the soil here is light and sandy, the owner of the roadside inn manages to grow good crops of grain, vegetables, and - what is more extraordinary in those high latitudes - water-melons, a great boon to the traveller'. From "Illustrated London News", 1864.
