Testimonial to the Bishop of Tasmania from the students of the Normal College, Cheltenham, 1864. '...a piece of plate which was presented to Dr. Bromby...by the students and former students of the Church of England Normal Training College at Cheltenham, and of St. Mary's Hall, the Female Training College, over which institutions he had presided for many years. It was manufactured by Messrs. Bernard and Son, of London, and consisted of an elegant épergne made of massive silver, the design of which may be thus described: From the base rise two lofty palm-trees, stretching their drooping leaves (wrought in frosted silver), on the summit of which rest a crystal bowl, the latter being for the occasion filled with a beautiful bouquet of flowers. At the foot of the trees rest a camel and two Arabs. The base is worked with the leaves of the water-lily on burnished ground...around the base is the following: "Presented in token of their affectionate regard for one who was their pastor, tutor, and friend." Accompanying the épergne, an elaborate silver sugar-basket, a cream- ewer, and one dozen massive silver teaspoons were presented to his Lordship'. From "Illustrated London News", 1864.
