Messers. Collard's Concert-room, Grosvenor-street, [London]. 1862. 'The firm of Collard and Collard ranks high among pianoforte-makers; and the increased operations of business consequent on their success have resulted in the Messrs. Collard opening a new establishment...so as to afford greater facilities to the fashionable and artistic world for inspecting their instruments...The saloons are of a spacious and highly-ornamental character, admirably adapted for the display of pianofortes...The prevailing style of architecture is the mixed Italian...The ceilings, designed by the celebrated brothers Adam, are alone worth a visit of inspection by connoisseurs of the decorative art, the judicious application of colour, under the masterly superintendence of Owen Jones, having greatly brought out and enhanced their original beauties...In a spirit of commendable liberality a magnificent saloon has been appropriated for a concert-room, which is gratuitously granted by Messrs. Collard for the use of artists, especially pianists, during the London season; and there is no saloon in the metropolis better adapted, from its acoustic properties, for musical effect, while the arrangements as to light and ventilation are perfect'.
