The Prince of Wales in Egypt: Jereed exercise performed by arnouts and arab chiefs before His Royal Highness a the Governor's Palace, Assiout, 1862. The future King Edward VII in Africa. 'The Prince, on his return from Upper Egypt, stopped at Assiout and saw the jereed exercise performed by some Arnouts and Arab chiefs...The chieftains exhibited great proficiency in throwing the jereed (a light spear), and performed many feats of dexterity while their horses were at full gallop, sometimes dashing among each other in a movement like a wild dance, and going through all the operations of mimic warfare as practised by these wild tribes'.
