The Coronation of the King and Queen of Prussia: state entry into Berlin - the trades defiling before the royal party at the Schloss - from a sketch by our special artist, 1861. 'As usual, the butchers took precedence of everything, and were immensely cheered by the crowd. The chief of the illustrious body was mounted on a stupendous charger, and as he passed under the palace windows he...took off his hat and saluted in a style from which some of the crowned heads of Europe might take a lesson. The band of this renowned chieftain was the most numerous of the whole trades, being 126 in number, all well mounted, and having white waving plumes and swords, which at least must be a "caution" to any threatening invader. Next in attractiveness to the butchers I may, perhaps, be permitted to rank the students of the University of Berlin, a very numerous body, and who - I suppose to keep them out of harm's way - were permitted to draw up immediately in front of the Schloss'.
