Visit of the Prince of Wales to Clumber: His Royal Highness passing through Worksop, 1861. The future King Edward VII is a guest at a stately home in Nottinghamshire. 'About one p.m. the cortege, preceded by his Grace the Duke of Newcastle and Lord Lincoln on horseback, and escorted by the Clumber troop of Sherwood Rangers, left the park for the Worksop station. All along the route there were thousands of people congregated, who cheered loud, long, and enthusiastically. All the feelings of loyalty of the good people of Worksop and the surrounding villages revealed themselves on this occasion. Never since the days when the old Abbey Church of Worksop was filled with priests and monks has there been such gay doings and rejoicings on either saint day or holiday as the ancient old town witnessed on Saturday last'.
