Bust of Sir Joshua Reynolds, in the Cottonian Library, Plymouth, 1861. Engraving from a photograph by Mr. Guisford of Plymouth. The bust '...was presented in that town to the Plymouth and Cottonian Library, on Monday, July 22...The bust is the work of Mr. Behnes, and is the result of a project started some time ago for honouring the memory of Reynolds by the erection of some memorial of him in his birthplace - Plympton...Mr. Cotton, in a modest and brief address, told the history of the subscription for the bust - a fine head, full of spirit and energy, and marked in every line with that determination which characterised Sir Joshua more than most men. It is founded on the bust modelled from Sir Joshua in his o lifetime by Ciracci [sic]. After Mr. Cotton had spoken the bust was uncovered; and Mr. Taylor, Mr. Whiteford, and Mr. W . Eastlake subsequently addressed the meeting'. From "Illustrated London News", 1861.
