Légende

Bust of the late Viscount Hardinge, by J. H. Foley, in the Royal Academy Exhibition, 1860. 'The sterling qualities of the late Viscount Hardinge, Commander-in-Chief, were highly esteemed by her Majesty, whose regard for the gallant veteran almost ripened into friendship. He was in attendance on her Majesty, as we all know, at the moment when he was seized with the sudden attack of indisposition which terminated fatally. Desirous to procure a memorial of this honest and high-minded public servant, the Queen could not have given the commission to better hands than those of Mr. Foley, who has produced a bust remarkable alike for the truth of the likeness and the simple dignity of the character displayed in it. This fine work of sculptured portraiture was in the Royal Academy Exhibition...and is intended to be placed in the corridor at Windsor Castle'. From "Illustrated London News", 1860.
