The Combined Fleet in China - transports in Cowloong Bay preparing to get under way for the north - from a sketch by our special artist at Hong-Kong, 1860. British warships at anchor. 'Advices from China are - Hong-Kong, June 7; Shanghai, May 30. The following is from the summary of the Hong-Kong China Mail: "Since the departure of last mail nothing of a political nature has taken place in regard to our relations with China, unless the success of the rebels near Shanghai may affect the progress of events. Most of the transports which had left for the north have had to put back to this port, on account of adverse winds, and it is uncertain when they may again take their departure, as the south-east monsoon has scarcely yet set in. It is not likely that any general movement will take place until the arrival of the British and French Envoys Extraordinary, who are expected to arrive by the mail now due. Sir Hope Grant and Admiral Hope stiff remain at Hong-Kong, but are expected to leave in a very few days'. From "Illustrated London News", 1860.
