The London Crystal Palace, Regent-Circus, Oxford-Street, [London], 1858. Engraving from a drawing by Edmund Walker, of the London Crystal Palace Bazaar, a '...novel structure, which has been erected by Messrs. Kennard (Brothers), the contractors, from the designs and under the superintendence of Mr. Owen Jones. The London Crystal Palace is intended to be a bazaar for the exhibition and sale of goods of the most elegant description...the building may be described as constructed substantially of iron and glass-a glass roof supported on iron columns, and therein modelled somewhat after its Sydenham prototype...its grand attractions consist in its construction, its internal decoration, and in the manner in which it is lighted...[This will be] by starlike gas-pendants...by a skilful management the coloured rays...By this mode of lighting no shadow will be thrown upon the objects exhibited either by night or day...the first floor is to be devoted to aviaries and aquaria, whilst the upper floors are proposed to be let to M. Laroche, photographer, of Oxford-street...A private room for luncheons for ladies should be especially noted; and, in conclusion, a word of acknowledgment to Mr. Lamb, the zealous and efficient clerk of the works, is justly due'.
