The Prince [of Wales] and his Comrades: Camp-Fire after Dinner in the Terai, 1876. The future King Edward VII in India. 'Every night in camp a large fire of wood is lighted close to the mess-tent, and after dinner his Royal Highness and suite, with the guests of the evening, come out, well wrapped up in greatcoats, and sit all round the blazing fire and smoke cigars. Here in the jungle this can be done, for there is no crowd to break through and disturb such a free and open arrangement. It tells how far from the haunts of men the Terai is when a Prince and his suite can sit out in this comfortable way and enjoy themselves, unmolested by curious spectators'.
