'The Visit of the Duke and Duchess of York to Dublin', 1897, (c1900). The future King George V and his wife Mary of Teck on a royal visit to Ireland, '...touring the distressful country for three weeks. The Royal visitors were welcomed at Dublin with an enthusiasm that swept aside all sombre prognostications and increased with each day of their sojourn in the Emerald Isle...The tour was a brilliant success from a social, and a happy experiment from a political point of view, and the 'Times' summed up the result by asserting that "the spirit of loyalty to the Throne was, at least, as strong in 'the Plantation' as in any other part of the United Kingdom".' From "Cassell's History of England, Vol. IX". [Cassell and Company, Limited, London, Paris, New York & Melbourne]
