Légende

The "Maison Verte", Sebastopol - sketched by E. A. Goodall, 1856. Scene from the Crimean War: '...a favourite target for the long ranges. It was not hit quite so often as those who aimed at it desired, but it has been mauled quite enough in all conscience to satisfy any reasonable artilleryman...Marks of shot are plentiful enough in and around it. One shot, which has left no mark that can be observed, has half turned round the topmost stone of the centre pinnacle of the south front...This house was once devoted to the purposes of education. It was, in fact, a school for young ladies...[however, other sources state that] the building was really the 'Chateau Wolkow ' (pronounced Volkof), built by a Russian nobleman of that name, and in which its owner had resided for many years'. From "Illustrated London News", 1856.
