Receipt for $12,500 for slave purchase, 1854-12-19. 'Received December 19th, 1854, of D.W. Goodman...in full payment for the purchase of the following slaves to wit Lydia a woman aged about fifty or sixty years. Dick a man aged twenty six. [Abner?] aged twenty four and David about twenty one years. Mary a woman about 25 years old and her three children, Monroe a boy, [Roxy?] a girl & [illegible] a boy. A[illegible] & her child, the mother aged about sixteen & child one year. Harriet a yellow girl about [illegible] years old and Harriet a black girl about fifteen or sixteen also Flora a woman some twenty five or six years of age. Also Lydia about eighteen years old & her child [illegible] about [one?] old. [Illegible] a woman some seventeen years of age. The above negroes I warrant sound & healthy & likewise warrant the [bills?] to said property good [signatures]'.
