The Amazing Dr. Clitterhouse, San Francisco, 1938. 'Was he a thief? Answer that for yourself after you have seen - "The Amazing Dr. Clitterhouse" - By Barre Lyndon - Alcazar [Theatre]'. Poster for a thriller - the lead character's name is a play on the term for the female sexual organ the clitoris; an extremely daring pun for the 1930s. The Federal Theatre Project, created by the U.S. Works Progress Administration in 1935, was designed to conserve and develop the skills of theater workers, re-employ them on public relief, and to bring theater to thousands in the United States who had never before seen live theatrical performances.
