The Night of January 16th, Birmingham, Alabama, 1936. 'Jefferson Theatre...Was Karen Andre Guilty? - The Night of January 16 - 3 Act Murder Mystery'. Poster for a play by Ayn Rand, inspired by the death of the "Match King", Ivar Kreuger. The piece is set in a courtroom during a murder trial, with members of the audience being chosen to play the jury. The court hears the case of Karen Andre, a former secretary and lover of businessman Bjorn Faulkner, of whose murder she is accused. The play's ending depends on the verdict of the audience members participating. The Federal Theatre Project, created by the U.S. Works Progress Administration in 1935, was designed to conserve and develop the skills of theater workers, re-employ them on public relief, and to bring theater to thousands in the United States who had never before seen live theatrical performances.
