Negro Slavery in Georgia, 1940. 'There are varies [sic] explanation as to how the Negro slaved in Georgia. Our author's opinion is that the personality and race may be responsible for the different answers because of a differnt [sic] view point. We may hear statements like these: "Slavery was on a whole a happy and complete life for the Negro", "The life of the slave was one long night of pain and bitterness". The life of the slave was made up of sunshine and shadow, pleasure and pain mixed with a great longing to know, and to be free". The author reveals that since Jesus said "Man cannot live by bread alone", this truth is expressed in the average Georgia Negro's unhappiness. The Negro slave in Georgia longed to be free as much as the Negro slave everywhere. We study slavery that we might know the conditions under which our people lived...'.
