Légende

The Bank-Note Paper-Mill, Laverstoke, Hampshire, 1854. Processing paper used for banknotes. 'The building, the machinery, and, indeed, the entire premises, have undergone very considerable alterations and improvements of late (in fact, they are not yet brought to completion), in order to adapt them to the perfect execution of the paper used for the new Bank-note, the issue of which is to commence on New-year's- day. The new buildings in which the unique machinery is placed, were erected under the superintendence of Mr. Hellyer, architect...The water-wheel (at least the principal one) just erected by Messrs. Donkin, is a turbine - a description of water-wheel but little known, as yet, in this country...These mills are used exclusively for the making of Bank-note paper; and, at the present time, about 50,000 Notes are made daily...'.
