St. Mary's New Church, Branksea Island, Dorset, 1854. 'The Church is one of the handsomer edifices in the diocese of Sarum. It is built of Purbeck stone, in the Early Decorated style, and has a square embattled tower, surmounted with a small octagonal turret....Colonel and Mrs. Waugh, the founders of the Church, have displayed great taste in their good work, and they must feel highly gratified at the universal approbation of the site, the edifice, and the judgment with which the whole undertaking has been carried out...[It] has been erected at the sole expense of Colonel Waugh, who also gave the site and an endowment of £75 per annum, to which the Government have added £25 on account of the Coast-guard Station'.
