Christ with the Disciples in the Corn-Field - painted by Henry Warren - Exhibition of the New Society of Painters in Water-Colours [in London], 1850. Painting by '...Mr. Warren, the President of the Society...At that time. Jesus went on the Sabbath-day through the corn; and his disciples were an hungered, and began to pluck the ears of corn, and to eat. But when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto him, Behold, thy disciples do that which is not lawful to do upon the Sabbath-day. But he said unto them, Have ye not read what David did, when he was an hungered, and they that were with him?-Matthew, xiii. 1, 2,3. For the felicitous composition of the picture, and the nice rendering of the landscape portion, we have already awarded high praise to the painter'. From "Illustrated London News", 1850.
