Myrrha - painted by H. O'Neil, 1850. Exhibition at the British Institution for Promoting the Fine Arts in the United Kingdom, in London. 'Mr. O'Neil's "Myrrha" hangs in the Middle Room; and its dimensions are 2 feet 6 inches by 2 feet 2 inches. This picture we have already commended, for its delicacy of touch, and the tranquil thoughtfulness and winning beauty of the face. Perchance, our Artist's portrait of the Ionian Female Slave, the favourite of Sardanapalus, has been embodied from the beautiful opening to the fifth act of Lord Byron's gorgeous tragedy: "The day at last has broken. What a night; Hath usher'd it! How beautiful in heaven!...".' From "Illustrated London News", 1850.
