The Dardanelles - the Battery and Stone Shot, 1850. View of '...the battery from which the stone shot are discharged [at] the Fort of Chanah-Kalesi', [in modern Turkey]. 'In the gun shown in the accompanying Sketch, our artist was able to thrust in his walking-stick- about three-quarters of an inch in diameter...It is in two parts, one of which contains the chamber, and they are screwed together in the middle by the means seen in the drawing'.
