That eminent philosopher delivered his opening address...which was characterised throughout by that strong philosophic view of things which distinguishes all Sir David Brewster's works; and by that eloquence which is to be found in all his literary labours, and which has tended greatly to render those departments of science which he has cultivated exceedingly popular'.
