The Oyster Woman, c1780-1825. 'Rowlandson, by nature and through his interests, was constantly in touch with his surroundings. His observations were sometimes surprising...it is not difficult to see that he demonstrated more pleasure in drawing a drinking or eating scene in a tavern than he did a public monument or a sitting room in a castle or private mansion'.
