Wright Apache and pilot, Virginia, USA, 1928. A Langley Memorial Aeronautical Laboratory test pilot prepares to fly the Apache to high altitude. The Wright XF3W was an American racing aircraft built by Wright Aeronautical for the United States Navy. It originally had a propeller spinner over the hub and a metal jacket covering the crankcase and inner portions of its engine cylinders.
