Légende

Present state of the British Museum, 1845. Entrance gate of the British Museum in Bloomsbury, London. 'The New Museum will occupy a site further north than its predecessor; and its large quadrangle will comprise the extent of the old garden. By this judicious plan, the building has proceeded, without obstruction to the purposes of the Museum; the collection being removed from the old edifice to the new one, as the latter has been finished. The present Illustration shows the not unpicturesque Central Lodge, with its octangular apartment and cupola; together with the centre of the principal Front; whilst, in the distance, is shown a portion of the new building; the whole, as seen from Great Russell-street'.
