Légende

The new Custom House, Ipswich, 1845. Municipal building in Suffolk: '...the main feature of the building consists of a central portico, approached by a double flight of steps on either side, and standing on a semi-circular coved arch, of a peculiarly bold and imposing appearance, the introduction of which forms a striking novelty in the design. The Arms of the Corporation of Ipswich appear in the pediment of the portico, the execution of which is very superior. The central compartment, under the portico, is the Hall of Commerce...The style may be called an adaptation of the Italian, the overhanging roof being a peculiarity of the Tuscan order...'. The building was designed by J M Clark. From "Illustrated London News", 1845, Vol VII.
