Silver vase presented to Sir R. Sale, 1845. 'This handsome piece of plate has just been presented by the Corporation of London to Sir Robert Sale, in approval of his distinguished services in India. The vase was manufactured by Messrs. Makepeace and Walford...'. Engraved on it is: '...the Resolution of the Court of Common Council, held December 12, 1844, by which this Vase has been presented, together with the freedom of the City, "To Major-General Sir Robert Henry Sale, Knight Grand Cross of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath, as a testimony of the admiration entertained by this court...of the many distinguished military services rendered by him in India, and particularly in his arduous and successful operations in the defence of Jellalabad, by which he contributed to uphold the...security of the British dominion in India, and the honour ot the British Empire"'.
