The Cambridge Election - the Nomination, 1845. Political event in Cambridgeshire, constituents vote to choose their new member of parliament. 'The Mayor...made an official declaration...and declared Mr. Kelly to be duly elected...Mr [Fitzroy] Kelly then addressed the electors. He was met by loud cheers from his friends, and groans and hisses from the other side. In the course of his speech, Mr. Kelly said: " When I previously came before you, I was then a private individual, and in that character only did I seek your suffrages. Now I have the honour to be a member of her Majesty's Government, but I stand before you with my principles unchanged'. From "Illustrated London News", 1845, Vol VII.
