New Church, Argyle-Square, 1844. New Jerusalem Church at Argyle Square, London: 'This Church is built for a society of persons who worship the Lord Jesus Christ in conformity with the views of Scripture doctrine presented in the writings of Swedenborg...The principle features of the entrance front...are two towers; about seventy feet high, and the gable of the main building...which reaches from tower to tower...Advantage has been taken of the difference in level between the roadway and the site on which the building stands, to form beneath the church a school-room capable of containing two hundred children, together with apartments for the church-keeper, stove-room, and convenience for warming the whole with hot water...The work has been erected from the design, and under the superintendence of Mr. J. D. Hopkins, architect, of Bedford-square'. From "Illustrated London News", 1844, Vol V.
