Légende

The Emperor Maximilian Presented by His Patron Saints to the Almighty, 1519. Like Wolf Traut (on view nearby), Springinklee was a pupil of Albrecht Dürer and remained in Nuremberg. Springinklee worked closely with Dürer and through him became involved with print projects to glorify Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian. Maximilian believed that large woodcut projects would be a cheap and effective way to ensure he would not be forgotten. He proclaimed, "He who during his life provides no remembrance for himself has no remembrance after his death and the same person is forgotten with the tolling of the bell, and therefore the money that I spend on remembrance is not lost..."
