Panel from a Casket with Scenes from Courtly Romances, 1330-1350 or later. These ivory panels, along with others, once adorned a large casket. Their crowded carvings explore romantic and chivalric themes, suggesting that the box may have been a courtship gift. In the center panel, knights joust. To their right, knights besiege a castle in hopes of capturing its ladies. At the left is the siege?s aftermath, a knight riding away with a lady astride his horse.
