A Flying Angel (recto); Studies of Hands Playing Instruments (verso), 1723-1727. In 1723 Piazzetta received the most important religious commission of his career, a ceiling painting of the Glory of Saint Dominic for a chapel in the church of Saints Giovanni e Paolo in Venice. Cleveland's Flying Angel is the artist's study for the angel who carries Saint Dominic in the final work.
