Légende

Pyx, early-mid 19th century, (1881). Etching of a silver-gilt pyx made in a workshop in the Rhineland, Germany. A pyx is a container used to carry the consecrated host (Eucharist) used in the catholic Holy Communion. This example, described as a 'fake', may be a copy of a 15th century original. From "The South Kensington Museum", a book of engraved illustrations, with descriptions, of the works of art in the collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London (formerly known as the South Kensington Museum). [Sampson Low, Marston, Searle and Rivington, London, 1881]
