The sinking of the 'Lusitania', May 1915, (1933). Scene 'outside the Cunard offices in London, which were besieged by friends and relatives of those known to be on board'. On 7 May 1915, the RMS 'Lusitania' was torpedoed by a German submarine off the south of Ireland, with the loss of 1,198 lives. Although unarmed, she was carrying munitions. The sinking presaged the United States declaration of war on Germany two years later. From "The Pageant of the Century". [Odhams Press Ltd, 1933]
