Légende

'Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son', 19th century. Biblical scene, from Luke 15: 21: 'And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son. But the father said to his servants, "Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet".' The Parable of the Prodigal Son: the younger of two sons squanders his fortune and is forced to return home empty-handed, ready to beg his father to accept him back as a servant. To his surprise, he is not scorned by his father but is welcomed back with celebration. Engraving after 'The Return of the Prodigal Son', an early 17th century painting by Leonello Spada, in the Louvre Museum, Paris.
