'I do thee no wrong, didst not thou agree with me for a penny', 19th century. Biblical scene, from Matthew 20: 13: 'But he answered one of them, and said, Friend, I do thee no wrong: didst not thou agree with me for a penny?' Jesus says that any worker who accepts the invitation to the work in the vineyard (said by Jesus to represent the Kingdom of Heaven), no matter how late in the day, will receive the same reward as those who have been faithful the longest.
