Biblical scene, from Luke 10: 34: 'And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.' The Parable of the Good Samaritan who tended to the wounds of a traveller who was stripped, beaten, and left half dead alongside the road. Engraving after a painting of the 18th century.
