'Clearing a Jam, Great Falls of the Ausable', 1874. Loggers trying to shift cut tree trunks in the Ausable Chasm near Keeseville, New York State, USA. '...the Great Falls, one hundred and fifty feet high, surrounded by the wildest scenery. Below this the stream grows narrower and deeper, and rushes rapidly through the chasm, where, at the narrowest point, a wedged bowlder cramps the channel to the width of five or six feet. From the main stream branches run at right angles through fissures, down one of which, between almost perpendicular rocks a hundred feet high, hangs an equally steep stairway of over two hundred steps...'.
