'The Landing of St. Augustine in Kent', (597AD), 1890. Augustine of Canterbury (6th century-died c 604) Benedictine monk and first Archbishop of Canterbury arrivied on the Isle of Thanet in AD597 on the Gregorian mission and met with king Ethelberht and Queen Bertha.
