Wounded British soldier being treated in the trenches during the Battle of the Somme, First World War, 1916, (1935). 'One of the attacking soldiers being given "First Aid" and refreshments by the Stretcher Bearers as he lies wounded in the trench. The magnificent work of the Stretcher Bearers, often carried out under very heavy fire, saved thousands of lives and earned the admiration of all ranks.'
