Scene from the First World War, 1914-1919: 'At the Dardanelles the hospital trains gave place to hospital barges, which conveyed the wounded to the magnificently appointed hospital ships, equipped with every appliance for the alleviation of the wounded - lifts, electric light, operating tables, and all the apparatus of the operating theatre ready at hand for immediate needs, and willing hands and brains to use them.'
