Municipal Buildings, Calverley Street, Leeds, West Yorkshire, c1955-c1980. An interior view of the interior hall at the Municipal Buildings, taken from the first floor and looking towards the double-arched entrance to a ground floor library room, showing the underside of an ornately carved arch in the foreground. The entrance hall to the Municipal Buildings leads from Calverley Street to the interior staircase hall, an open three storey hall with a double-arched arcade of marble pillars, a stair case on the left and right and a paired arch entrance to a library room, previously the pay room, set within a large arch that is taller than the ground floor. Above the doors is a stained glass segmental light, and above, within the larger arch, is a round panel with a carved scene depicting the tax collector with a border of foliage, and a small roundel on either side. In the foreground is the underside of an arch viewed from the first floor, with continuous roundels with floral designs and richly carved capitals.
