'Madonna of the Magnificat', 1481, (1937). The Virgin Mary, holding the infant Jesus on her lap, is crowned by two angels as she writes the opening of the Magnificat, (an early hymn). On the left page is part of the Benedictus, (song of thanksgiving). In her other hand she holds a pomegranate. Painting in the Uffizi Gallery, Florence. From "Sandro Botticelli" by Lionello Venturi.
